[EN] The intervention of Jaime Reis at CCMAR Seminars, organized by the University of Algarve, took place on February 3, 2020, at 1:30 pm, with the conference The Soundscape as potentinal source for artistic inspiration & social intervention.
Abstract:
Soundscape and Acoustic Ecology are terms that were used by Barry Truax, Bernie Krauss, Murray Schafer and many others between the realms of artistic research, ecology, music and other fields. Also referred to as soundscape ecology, it alludes to the study of the effects of the acoustic environment, or Soundscape, on the physical responses or behavioural characteristics of those living within it. Its particular aim is to draw attention to imbalances which may have unhealthy or inimical effects (Truax, 1978). It has been widely used as an inspirational source for music makers, as well for scientific studies.
This presentation aims to give an insight between some of the intersections that have been made between science and music, particularly relating to the fields of electroacoustic music, computer science and ecology.

Resumo:
Paisagem Sonora e Ecologia Acústica são termos utilizados por Barry Truax, Bernie Krauss, Murray Schafer e muitos outros entre os domínios da investigação artística, ecologia, música e outros campos. Também conhecida como Ecologia da Paisagem Sonora, esta alude ao estudo dos efeitos do ambiente acústico, ou paisagem sonora, nas respostas físicas ou características comportamentais de quem vive nele. O seu objetivo é chamar a atenção para desequilíbrios que podem ter efeitos prejudiciais à saúde ou hostis (Truax, 1978). Tem sido amplamente utilizada como fonte de inspiração para músicos, bem como para estudos científicos.
Esta apresentação pretende dar uma ideia de algumas das intersecções que se têm feito entre a ciência e a música, nomeadamente no que se refere aos campos da música electroacústica, informática e ecologia.
